The “Racial” Divide, is Nailed to the Cross…

And even though you were dead in your transgressions and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he nevertheless made you alive with him, having forgiven all your transgressions. He has destroyed what was against us, a certificate of indebtedness expressed in decrees opposed to us. He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross.  Colossians 2.13–14

There has been much ink and internet data space abused for a particular topic as of late amidst the Christian blogosphere. The topic, which I will not even endeavor to name specifically, disgusts me to the point of tears and vitriolic hatred. Tears for the comments made about those I look up to and those of whom I share an intimate Christian walk with. Vitriolic hatred towards the comments made those slandering the aforementioned brothers in Christ. Many comments directed to these faithful brothers are even made by professing believers, not just any regular “blogger Joe” types mind you, but scholarly educated ministers and educators.

The rhetoric given is damn near as close as you can come to the leftist propaganda you hear from the “safe space” Social Justice [false] warriors. If you aren’t in the Christian blogger world, or only read the Babylon Bee (as a source of Christian internet media) I’m sure by now you’ve clued into what I’m speaking of. All it will take is 20 minutes of searching the backlog of TGC’s website to discover it… just search MLK50 and the responses made to it to understand.

The verse I opened up with has a very strong place in my heart. It levels us all to a local of humble penitence, and gives a wealth of understanding on what the idea of “leave the past behind you” means to the Christian.

Paul, speaking primarily to a Gentile audience (hence the uncircumcision line), tells them that before they were changed to having a circumcised heart, Christ had their transgressions nailed to the cross. This is how all debt was paid, before it was even asked for. It has a retroactive quality to it. No sin; not yours, mine, any ancestor’s, nor some government official, can claim any sin be imputed to you. Once the reality of faith in Christ has set in, the claim has been retroactively applied.

What an excellent word, it is what substantiates the past reality of what was done on the cross. It’s where the “retroactiveness” idea comes from. Someone claiming the name of Christ who claims to stand over someone else and pronounce a sentencing of reparation stands, as it were, in a blasphemous position.

Do not speak against one another, brothers and sisters. He who speaks against a fellow believer or judges a fellow believer speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but its judge. But there is only one who is lawgiver and judge—the one who is able to save and destroy. On the other hand, who are you to judge your neighbor? James 4.11–12

The type of judging James is speaking of here must be something only reserved for God. It’s less similar to what we consider judging and more akin to sentencing penalties. Not just guilt but what must be the remedy for said guilt. This is something only God (ultimately) may do. For the Christian (the one born again, i.e. truly a believer) to do this to a fellow Christian is not only hypocrisy, it is adulterous (see earlier in James).

I’ve never been a fan of writing my “race” or even my ethnicity down in the census info or on an application. I’ve always just left it blank, for to be honest there are too many to count, I’m what you call a mutt. So in response to the slanderers, let me just give my ‘two cents’…

I’m a Christian Oregonian American of whom skin is of a lighter colour than one from a more sun soaked ancestry. If that offends you, then place your tent peg in another place… I’ve set mine here, and will not apologize for the colour of my skin that God chose to give me. My ancestors had no choice in the matter.

Any guilt bestowed upon a believer in Christ by another, either takes these passages and burns them in effigy or knows the internal nature of the heart. Since no true believer would dream of claiming such things for themselves, go the Yael route… drive the steak down hard.
